Editor of conservative rag backs Kerry's story
William Rood, a metro editor for the perenially conservative Chicago Tribune, broke his silence and corroborrated Kerry's (and the official documented) version of the firefight that won him the silver star.
"The critics have taken pains to say they're not trying to cast doubts on the merit of what others did, but their version of events has splashed doubt on all of us. It's gotten harder and harder for those of us who were there to listen to accounts we know to be untrue, especially when they come from people who were not there," --William RoodStrong stuff. Thanks to the Tribune for their impariality and integrity.

In the swift boat commercials, former sailors accuse Kerry of lying to receive two of his five combat decorations, a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, and criticize his anti-war activism after he returned home from Vietnam. He also received a Silver Star and two Purple Hearts for other actions.
The ad includes Larry Thurlow, who commanded one of five swift boats in the Mekong Delta during an incident March 13, 1969, for which Kerry was decorated and Thurlow himself earned a Bronze Star.
Thurlow told CNN that Kerry's boat fled after a mine crippled another boat and was not under enemy fire when he returned to rescue an Army officer knocked overboard by a second mine that detonated nearby.
But the Navy citation for Thurlow's Bronze Star said "all units began receiving enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire from the river banks."
And the Navy's letter awarding Kerry the Bronze Star states that Kerry exhibited "great personal courage under fire" in rescuing Army Green Beret Lt. Jim Rassmann, who recommended Kerry for the decoration and who has publicly disputed Thurlow's account of what happened that day.

In case you don't have your critical reading cap on, *Thurlow got the bronze star for exactly the same incident as Kerry.* In fact, he wasn't even the one pulling people out of the water, so it wouldn't be unfair to say he deserved the commendation even *less* than Kerry.
Christ, this just pisses me off. You know what? I don't give a fuck that Kerry has x (2?) purple hearts and a bronze (and silver?) star. I don't really even care that much taht he went to Vietnam in the first place, except that it gives me talking points against our worthless-ass president.
I'm much more interested in his billion terms as a Massachusetts senator and as a (good and thoughtful, like today's retards) anti-war activist.
I think it's really bad that the entire discourse (I hate using that word since it's on your page so much, but it's the best word) has turned into the usual back-and-forth about negative ads and the two candidates war records. Why can't we focus on their achievements (or lack thereof) and policies? God forbid we actually know what the two fucking candidates stand for.

Yeah Mike, Thurlow is bullshit. He says that his bronze star was probably fake too, since he contends that Kerry must have written the after action report that led to both of their awards.
This was just shown to be untrue about two days ago, when scarborough reported that the name on Thurlow's citation wasn't Kerry, but some third guy who's stayed out of the controversy.
So it's not just Kerry and history vs Thurlow and the other guys who weren't there, it's Kerry, history and some other commanding officer.
The picture things looks good. I use Mozilla and I just recently discovered that it uses a wash effect to change pics. My blog looks 100% different with Mozilla. Theres all sorts of stuff that just doesn't show up on stinking IE
Is that you Andrew? who made that comment, link me to your site.
I'm totally in agreement, now that i've switched to firefox, I like it a lot more than IE and a little more than Crazy Browser.
If anyone out there doesn't want to give up IE, get Crazy Browser, it's a great IE hack that adds great functionality
For those of us on Macs, not only can we not use Crazy Browser, as there's no Mac version, we don't even have a recent version of IE, as they long since stopped updating it for the Mac. Same thing goes for Netscape. And Safari SUCKS. What's Mozilla like?
Firefox is good Omni, it's got full tab functionality, it supposedly is fully HTML compliant, which means it renders webpages "correctly" and not sloppy the way IE does.
I dunno, compared to crazy browser, it's close, but it blows conventional browsers out of the water.
I had some problems with flash plugins and whatnot to begin with, but it seems to work fine now.
Actually, mike is on a Mac, and I *think* he uses Firefox, not sure though
Luke,
No, dumbass, I use Safari, and, contrary to Omni's opinion, it doesn't suck. Omni, if you're looking for a good browser for mac and you don't like Safari, you can try Firefox (there is a mac version).
Best of luck,

Dumbass? lol
my apologies for not knowing which browser you use.
Allow me to adapt a common internet burn to suit you Mike, ahem:
Having a Mac is like running in the Special Olympics. Even if you're the fastest, you're still retarded.
Heh. That's funny. God, the first time I heard that (the original), I laughed so hard I almost cried. I'm a bad person.
Anyway, it shouldn't have taken Sherlock Holmes to deduce what browser/OS I use from your SiteMeter.
I suppose it doesn't matter. I'm just persnickity because you get more traffic than I do.
Dumbass
--Mike Sheffler
More traffic except for those humongus 5 days you had earlier in the month. How'd that happen, was that all slashdot fallout?
Crazy.
And I had no idea you could tell about browsers in Site meter.
